She is one of the founders and leaders of Gretagrund, quartet MA and vocal ensemble Söörömöö. Her debut album Püsimatu hing with Gretagrund was released in October 2015. Her music in eight-member Gretagrund uses improvisation and structured arrangements combined with Estonian lyrics. Her new project MA experiments with soul music. In addition to singing, writing music and lyrics, she writes arrangements for vocal ensembles, choirs, and instrumental ensembles (23rd European Film Awards gala concert, Popkooripidu 2012-2014, ensemble Lenna & Estonian Voices tour 2017). Her music studies started with classical piano studies in Tallinn School of Music (1997-2005). After secondary school, she studied pop-jazz singing in Tallinn Georg Ots Music College (2008-2011) and continued with jazz singing in the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (2011-2014). She has also studied jazz singing in Norway (Universitetet i Stavanger, 2012-2013) and the UK (North Glasgow College in 2011). She sang in the Estonian Televisioin Girls' Choir for many years during her studies. In 2017, she won the best singer award at the Uno Naissoo composition and interpretation competition. The album is consummate and through-composed jazz-rock or fusion, which goes into rock rather conditionally than literally. It is an ambivalent music and its interpretation depends on the listener's effort. It has gentleness and a little bit of radio-friendliness, husky guitar solos, funkiness, bass-specific compositions including motoric grooves and mild soundscapes. But this is only the surface. I would not say this record opens itself easily, you have to work on it. However, if you finally get there, the music will open itself to you with a new meaning and depth. I found that in music, with musical instruments Mai expresses her deep feelings for the people she loves. In that sense, the music is very confessional and fragile, even if it sounds strong. Around 2013, he evidently tired of thinking up a new alias with each expectation-confounding release and, under his birth name, initiated a trio of brief releases for the Warp label. Featuring drop-ins from Ragga Twins and Spikey Tee, the fully energized EPs moved through jungle, bass, juke, ragga, and grime. They provided no indication for the approach taken on Under the Sun, itself a stylistic manifold. The album begins with "?," a sorrowful and moving ambient piece. Given a low-key release in 2009, the track has been used by Mala to open DJ sets, and it serves a similarly cleansing purpose for its new home here, leading to a rolling Krautrock chorale that features the baleful, multi-tracked voice of Bibio. It's followed by a nocturnal speeding anthem, all pounding and scuttling drums, vibrating drones, and stern direction to "switch to infrared," and a weightless, slightly uneasy track with some robotic harmonizing. That covers only the first quarter. What follows is mostly beatless, with the tracks ranging from 90 seconds to eight minutes in length. They're highlighted by the flittering "Where Do They Go, The Butterflies," the gorgeous "Sad Alron," and "Rebel Angels," where buried bass probing and a racing melody play out like a set-up for thunderous breakbeat science but disintegrate. The handful of additional tracks with vocals are spread throughout. Thom Yorke in misshapen form adds hazy dread to a lulling machine ballad. Cult folk hero Linda Perhacs delivers a spooked ballad from the edge of a dune. For Beans' nightmarish spoken narrative, Pritchard makes like a member of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop with intensifying patterns of organ filigrees and electronics that blip and swarm. The somewhat fragmented yet totally spellbinding sequence ends with the title track, a subwoofer workout built around a loop of -- what else? -- Julie Andrews' recitation of a 1765 nursery rhyme. Nothing The Zac Brown Band's first major-label release, 2008's The Foundation, put this hard-working touring band over the top, generating five hit singles, including the instant classic singalong "Chicken Fried," and this follow-up album will get a lot of attention and airplay on country stations. Is there another "Chicken Fried" here? Not really, but You Get What You Give is a better and more consistent album than The Foundation, thanks to Brown's solid songwriting and singing and the rest of the bandmembers' ability to sound country even when they venture deep into Southern rock territory, tackle a little bluegrass, or veer into a jam band reggae direction think George Strait crossed with the Allman Brothers Band crossed with Jimmy Buffett (who actually guests here on "Knee Deep") crossed with the Dave Matthews Band. This is a band built for flexibility at live shows and for stretching numbers out, but thanks to Brown's easy, natural honky tonk singing and sharp songwriting, ZBB also deliver confidently in the tighter restraints of a studio setting. From the opener, the you're-definitely-gonna-hear-this-on-the-radio "Let It Go," this set is road-tested and crisp. "Let It Go" is a clear highlight, but so too is the Allman Brothers-like "I Play the Road," the ragtime two-step sound of "Whiskey's Gone," the fast, skittering reggae of "Settle Me Down," the honky tonk "As She's Walking Away" (featuring a guest spot from Alan Jackson), and the haunting ballad "Martin," and all of these tracks combined make this a stronger album than The Foundation, even if it doesn't exactly have a song that's going to be as huge and commercially feasible as "Chicken Fried" instant classics are rare, and they're supposed to be. For Hutchings, composition is a chronicle of the zeitgeist inhabited by a composer; an exposition of his or her search for meaning and the structuring of experiences in aid of recognising this meaning when it appears. As part of the Caribbean diaspora, he sees his role as that of pushing the boundaries of what musical elements are considered to be Caribbean. Constantly evaluating the nature of his relationship with musical material and tradition, he describes his attempts at composition as wrestling matches with questions of where and how the Caribbean can be encoded, and what happens when it is exposed to the western classical music cannon. Hutchings was born in 1984 in London. He moved to Barbados at the age of six, began studying classical clarinet aged nine and remained until sixteen. Shabaka's primary project is the group Sons of Kemet, which won the 2013 MOBO Award for Jazz Act of the Year. In June 2014 Shabaka was invited to join the Sun Ra Arkestra, performing with them and recording a session for BBC Radio 3. He has performed and recorded with Courtney Pine's Jazz Warriors, Mulatu Astatke and the Heliocentrics, Polar Bear and Soweto Kinch. Some of the many notable musicians he has shared the stage with include Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden and the Liberation Music Orchestra, Louis Moholo, Evan Parker, King Sunny Ade and Orlando Julius to name a few. In 2010 Shabaka was granted the title of BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist which allowed him to undertake numerous commissions, as well as broadcast performances on radio. These included performances with Julian Joseph, the BBC Big Band, and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (with whom he performed the Copland Clarinet Concerto in the Wales Millennium Centre). In 2012 he was commissioned to write a piece for the BBC Concert Orchestra which included members his own group (Sons of Kemet) and electronic musicians Leafcutter John and Jason Singh. This concert was received to critical praise at the South Bank's Queen Elizabeth Hall. In July 2013 Shabaka was commissioned by Leasowes Bank Music Festival to write a piece for clarinet and string quartet. He performed this piece with the Ligeti String Quartet to rave reviews (the Birmingham Post giving the concert 5 stars). Shabaka was nominated for Jazz Musician of the Year 2013 in the Parliamentary Jazz Awards. Shabaka was a recipient of the Paul Hamlyn Composer Award 2014 and the winner of the Jazz FM Instrumentalist of the Year 2015. Earlier in 2015, Shabaka also received a commission from the London Sinfonietta to write a 'note to the new government' and was Associate Artist for the Spittalfields Summer Festival. A singer, songwriter, author, composer, and even orchestra conductor, he is mostly remembered for songs like "Avec le Temps," "Les Anarchistes," and "Jolie Môme." His career began in the cabaret and took him through four decades and a number of styles, but his best material and his popularity peak happened in the '60s and early '70s, as the generation of May '68 adopted him as an anarchist figure.
