In this part, they rehearsed before Christmas 1973 and played their first gig in Cambridge in January 1974. In March, drummer Nick Howell suddenly left the band and was replaced by Alan Platt. Robert Hunter began to cooperate with the group in 1974 while writing songs and even sang on one of them (he was solo on the title "Ratbite Fever"). By the end of 1974, the group completed the recording of their debut album on "Newbury Farmhouse Studios", but music lovers over the next 16 years have not been able to hear it (the album was released in 1990). This release includes compositions unreleased album in 1974 plus an additional six "live" songs as bonus tracks. Download links: [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]

Make a Present of You (Joe Greene) 2:27 24. Miss You (Charles, Harry & Henry M.Tobias) 2:34 .In the Mood for a Song? Corky Shayne worked hard from an early age to perfect her style. Like many she started by singing with high school dance bands, but she also performed in every talent show that would have her. By the early fifties she began appearing in various supper clubs around her native Chicago accompanied by pianist Dick Marx and bassist Johnny Frigo. This led to her appearing in various local TV shows, and eventually - in 1956, at age 24- to her first and only album, for Salem Records. For her debut she picked up a dozen romantic standards that she sang in a straight ungimmicked approach, accompanied by the Johnnie Pate Quartet -not only a fine bass player and leader, but also an accomplished arranger who scored all the backgrounds of this album. Songs by a Moody Miss The big break for Georgia Carr came in 1946 when she tied for firstplace with singer April Stevens in a talent contest. That have her the push to quit her secretarial job in Los Angeles, and move to San Diego, where she sang at club Royal for six years. When bandleader Stan Kenton happened into the club, he immediately recognized her talent, and introduced her to Capitol Records. The label agreed she was destined to hit the bigtime, so they launched a nation-wide promotional campaign, and with several hit recordings behind her, an engagement at New York's Birdland brought her top billing and assurance of stardom. From then on, Georgia appeared on countless supper clubs throughout the nation, accompanied by her musical mentor and pianist Eddie Beal. In 1958, backed by a group of ace Hollywood musicians, she recorded the LP 'Songs by a Moody Miss' for Tops Records, and was credited on the album sleeve as "America's Foremost Night Club Singer." Back then Georgia was a singing personality of nationwide fame, and although some of it slowly vanished during the Sixties, she remained active until the end of the decade. For the first of his explorations into the world of art song, Matthew Gee has turned to Schubert's work in this unique arrangement for trombone and piano. English titles are used for the poems to emphasise the fact that text is no longer the primary expressive vehicle here. Instead, it is entrusted to the trombone, an instrument whose vocal qualities and ability to employ glissando, vibrato, portamento and microtonal inflections-allied to the use of various mutes-offers an astonishing array of tonal possibilities. His weaves a bit of playful scat into "Lulu's Back in Town." He only adds slight embellishments to a lush treatment of "Sophisticated Lady," using Duke Ellington's ballad in a medley with two Harold Arlen gems ("Stormy Weather" and "When the Sun Comes Out"). Tormé's pseudo-French accent at the beginning of "Autumn Leaves" is riotous, then he works his way into Ellington's "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)" in the midst of the performance. He uses a scatted take of "Manteca" to introduce "Day In, Day Out." He also revisits his emotional original ballad "I'm Gonna Miss You," which he had written in 1945 for Vic Damone, though neither Damone's record nor the composer's earlier version ever gained much notice.~Ken Dryden Download links: [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]
  11. Artist: Melanie Velarde Title: Bez Year Of Release: 2019 Label: Commend There Genre: experimental; noise Quality: 24-bit/44.1kHz FLAC Total Time: 1:09:30 Total Size: 757 MB CAT#: THERE001 Release Date: December 6, 2019 Melanie Velarde, keeper of TemporaryArchives and faithful stenographer of the world's mysterious blur, returns with Bez, her latest reminiscence of sound. Following her 2016 experience Parcel, the third installment in the Commend See series (a multi-disciplinary, site-inspired collaboration series overseen by our NYC storefront and community space), Bez first appeared as a continuous mix of all new and original material from Velarde for RVNG's Rinse FM takeover in 2018. Long since extracted from the cloud, Bez reappears in freshly sequenced and expanded form for wider wanders. Bez nods to the fragile majesty of Parcel, sifting through emotive sound relics sculpted, performed, lost and found by Velarde, then thread together improvisationally and often inconceivably. Her music conjures a warbled waltz, swaying to the dream time signatures of a buried cinematic score. Take the woodblock bossa sway of "Another Para," its joy manifested in Velarde's accompanying video, which in true TemporaryArchives fashion transforms a capsule moment into an enlightening beam of ebullient childhood joy; or "Bez," where vocal fragments murmur over swimming tones and a patient beat. Bez speaks to scenes deep in our subconscious either lived or dreamed, yet so full of soul we treat them as real. Other songs of Bez sashay, as if bribed by a breeze; chirping cicadas and avians here, noodling loops and organs there. "Los" scatters formless energy waves over a bleating subterrain, "Mon" pulls us into a sweet and storied timeline, and "Tomorrow" ties up Bez's yarn with an ode to possibility, somersaulting between grace and goof in toylike rhythm-melody before tumbling into a rainshower. Melanie Velarde's Bez launches a new label limb called Commend There, collecting and presenting material recorded outside of Commend's four walls but maintaining a special connection to our space station. Bez will be available on digital platforms December 6, 2019, with physical editions available from and beyond Commend then / there. Tracklist: 1/14. Melanie Velarde - Nightfall (5:58) 2/14. Although it is not quite as evident from the band's sole 1970 LP alone, it was also an exploratory and adventurous combo, starting with early Kinks- and Beatles-derived singles before moving into sophisticated soft pop and finally a funky jazz-rock inclination that is startlingly prescient for its era. Its recorded legacy isn't nearly as long as it should have been, nor is it as well-known as it deserves to be, at least among devotees of the era's pop music. The group genesis can be dated to a swap that took place between two high-school bands in 1964. Jay Petach, one year into the guitar, led the Spectres. It featured classmates Bill Tullis and Bill Turner on vocals and bass, respectively, and friends Danny Marshall and Glenn Howerton on rhythm guitar and drums. The Spectres' main competition on the scene was the Oxfords, who included drummer Jim Guest. In 1965, a difference of opinion between Guest and the remaining four Oxfords caused a rift within the band. Guest asked the Spectres to join him in a reconstituted version of the Oxfords, while Howerton joined the four exited members in a new combo called the Rugbys. By 1966, bassist Ray Barrickman had replaced Turner and guitarist Ronnie Brooks took Marshall's place in the band. They entered the studio and recorded a version of Burt Bacharach and Hal David's "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me," which found its way to Nashville producer Buzz Cason. He liked it and went to Louisville to help the Oxfords finish it, as well as finding them a deal with Bell Records. That autumn, Barrickman left the band for college. Brooks moved to bass and Tullis took over guitar duties, and this amalgam recorded and released the 1967 single "Sun Flower Sun" on Bell, even making an appearance on Dick Clark's American Bandstand (where it scored a 65 on the "Rate the Record" segment, effectively killing it). Brooks left the band later in the year and was replaced by Gary Johnson, who also left after several months to join the post-Soul, Inc. power trio Elysian Field. Flying Up Through the SkyPetach regrouped, putting together an entirely new Oxfords lineup in 1968. Donnie Hale replaced Guest behind the trap kit, while Dill Asher was enlisted as bass player. Most significantly, though, Petach asked Jill DeMarco to join as guitarist and lead singer. DeMarco had been leader of the all-girl Louisville band the Hearby, and Petach had previously helped the band make their one and only record. This is the unit that recorded the bulk of the Oxfords' LP Flying up Through the Sky. Hale's friend Keith Spring, who later went on to work with NRBQ, joined for a brief spell, although the band moved in far too esoteric directions for their audience with him in the group. Still, he helped out with orchestrations and played on the recording sessions, which extended into 1969, when Larry Holt replaced Asher and Paul Hoerni took over for Hale. This lineup recorded the last few album cuts and the group's last single, "Come on Back to Beer," inspired by some crowd banter from Frank Zappa, whose Mothers of Invention the Oxfords had opened for earlier in the year. Although they had offers from two record labels, the band decided to release its finished album on its own Union Jac label at the beginning of 1970. It didn't sell well and frustration began to set in by 1971, but the band soldiered on, first by acting as the pit band for Petach's rock musical, coincidentally titled Grease like the now-famous musical that was being produced simultaneously in Chicago. Despite the unlucky circumstances, the musical ran for several weeks at the University of Louisville and was also performed in Atlanta and at the University of Kansas. Jerry Canter briefly joined on guitar, but left the following year along with Holt and Hoerni, leading to the final band lineup, with Quentin Sharpenstein (who had played tuba in an orchestra overdub session on Flying four years earlier) on bass, guitarist Tony Williamson, and jazz drummer Bobby Jones. DeMarco doubled on guitar and clavinet, and Petach took a more concerted interest in the production side, but also played organ, Rhodes piano, and flute. Petach also became the engineer at the local recording studio of a friend during this period, and volunteered the band's services in exchange for studio time. This combo recorded whenever possible, developing a scintillating jazz-rock bent, but the Oxfords were already running out of steam by this point and called it quits in the summer of 1972. Flying Up Through the Sky, Vol. 2Petach continued his work behind the boards, becoming a respected studio engineer while also recording occasionally over the subsequent years. DeMarco moved to Chicago, where she studied jazz, then Seattle, where she played solo gigs through the '80s before giving up music altogether. Barrickman went on to play in the band of Hank Williams, Jr., among others, while Brooks became the second frog in the classic Budweiser commercials. (His brother Randy also became a noteworthy footnote to pop history as the composer of the Christmas novelty "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.") Holt, Hoerni, and Sharpenstein could all still be found gigging around Louisville at the turn of the century. A compilation of key Oxfords tracks was released as Flying Up Through the Sky by Gear Fab Records in 2001, followed by a second volume, Flying Up Through the Sky, Vol. 2, in 2007.
