Cavaliere di Malta Angelo Gilardino is one of the most important guitar composers of the last half century. His unique style is a blend of the old and new, folk art and contemporary music, from Mozart to Messiaen. All his works are illuminated by a warm and mediterranean glow, a feeling of humanity and love for life. This release contains all the works he wrote for guitar solo and for guitar and orchestra, including his famous 60 Trancendental Studies. The set includes many world premieres. No better advocate and interpreter could be wished for than guitarist Cristiano Porqueddu, a lifelong pupil and friend of the composer, sharing the same musical passions. 2. Sequentia cyclica, super dies iræ, KSS 71: Fuga quinta a sei voci, stretto e coda (41:04) A long-awaited Sorabji premiere on disc: the eight-hour cycle of 27 variations based on the 'Dies Irae' and Requiem Mass plainchants, performed by one of the composer's most dedicated modern exponents. As Jonathan Powell explains in an invaluable booklet essay, the present recording is the result of many years' acquaintance with and preparation of this music. He is uniquely equipped to undertake the mammoth task of learning one of Sorabji's most ambitious scores, having already given several public performances of the five-hour Opus clavicembalisticum which is, by comparison, almost a repertoire work, at least for dedicated followers of this most eccentric, quixotic, withdrawn and yet visionary of20th-century composers. Then in 2011 Powell first performed the Sequentia Cyclica, having been studying the music since 2002, and since then has given another four and a half public performances. Sorabji attempted to restrict performances of his music, by and large successfully, to only performers 'with the sheer grit, determination and staying power,' such 'rare birds' that they may be relied upon 'to deduce, from internal evidence, what sort of treatment the music calls for,' and in Jonathan Powell the composer has a worthy advocate and successor to the likes of Yonty Solomon and John Ogdon. And to Egon Petri, dedicatee of Sequentia Cyclica, once Sorabji had completed the score in 1949. Petri was the foremost living disciple of Ferruccio Busoni - another composer who provoked perplexity and extravagant praise during his lifetime - and from the opening outline of the Dies Irae chant, it becomes clear that the cycle will evolve according to the principles of Sorabji's particular, Busoni-derived, Liszt-originated formula of intricate counterpoint and lush harmonies. As ever, Sorabji does not pretend to make the performer's life easy, writing across six staves at some points, and leaving much of the expression to be intuited by the pianist. He regarded it, however, as 'the climax and crown of his work for the piano.' Its first recording, therefore, is a landmark achievement, which will be welcomed and sought after by pianophiles the world over. Khaikosru Sorabji (1892-1988) is one of the most enigmatic and controversial 20th century composers. Largely self-taught he chose his own way, never fitting into any school or movement. His style is highly idiosyncratic, inspired by late-romantics like Busoni and Szymanowski. Characteristic for his piano music are the enormous proportions and textural density of his works, some of them lasting several hours in performance, taxing the performer and audience to the utmost. This new CD set presents the first recording of the Sequentia Cyclica Super Dies Irae, a massive work on the basis of the famous Dies Irae plainchant from the Requiem mass. It presents 27 variations, varying in length between a few minutes and more than one hour, in total over 8,5 hours long. It was written in 1948/49 and Sorabji regarded the work as "the climax and crown of his works for the piano and, in all probability, the last he will write". 6. Artist: Emil Gilels, George Szell Title: Beethoven: 5 Piano Concertos Year Of Release: 1968 [2015] Label: Tower Records [TDSA-08~10] Genre: Classical Quality: DSD64 image (*.iso) | FLAC (24bit/88,2 kHz) Total Time: 02:55:01 Total Size: 4,81 GB / 2,97 GB (+3%rec.) Supreme performance of Gilerith & Cell, which has been highly acclaimed. New mastering digs deeper into the masterpiece! Includes all five Beethoven Piano Concertos recorded in 1968 by Gillerith on his later Cell and Cleveland tube and former EMI label. It is a masterpiece that has been highly evaluated so far. It is a sound source that has been supported since its release as a wonderful performance that combines knowledge, emotion, and skill at the highest level. For this reprint, a new mastering was performed separately for the SACD layer and the CD layer using a master that was digitized at 96 kHz / 24 bit from the master tape in the home country. The Beethoven between Gilleris and Cell is a sound source that was recorded at a stretch at Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland tube in 1968, and is not a sound source that has been reproduced many times on CDs. The excellence of the performance surpasses the old version with several Gilerith, and it is one of the most outstanding ones among the same performances. The old EMI label made some recordings with the Cell & Cleveland tube at this time. These are still noteworthy sources, as they are the last recordings of the cell, but it's true that recordings have not been evaluated very well until now. In order to reproduce the finish of the recording that does not spoil the splendor of the performance, in this reprint, a piano with a sense of realism along with a clearer sound field, and the excellentness of the back due to the open field of view stand out, more music The whole sound became visible. You will be able to rediscover this masterpiece by seeing how the Cell & Cleveland tube was so excellent and the direction of the cell. I think you can find many more reasons to be a great board. ~Google Interpreter Tracks: Disc: 1 1. Piano Concerto No.1 in C Op.15: I. Allegro con brio 2. Piano Concerto No.1 in C Op.15: II. Largo 3. A long-awaited SACD with a magnificent and joyful performance by the famous combination of Schuricht and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra! A hybrid SACD of a performance that Schuricht left on a concert hall label. With SACD, you can enjoy high-quality sound very close to the master tape. In addition, the CD layer is newly remastered with DENON genuine equipment from analog master tape this time, and you can enjoy sound quality different from the conventionally released board. This CD layer is positioned as an extra to enjoy more music. As a "plus alpha", it is a limited edition that can be enjoyed by those who have a conventional CD. In this first release, a total of three titles will be released. Schuricht and Johann Strauss seem to be in conflict, and in fact they are famous. In addition to the good sensibility of the original music that is born out of a refreshing interaction with the orchestra, the attractiveness of the composition of the small pieces creates an attractive recording. In particular, "The Story of the Vienna Woods" is a famous performance. What is there is more elegance and richness of emotion and dignity, lurking in the strictness of Shuricht rather than elegance. All 8 songs are gem. Schuricht is no exception in Johann Strauss, and the rhythm is not only ambiguous but also very strict. There is no exaggeration or graceful sound in the expression, but the content of the song is sincere. Therefore it is not an exaggeration to say that it is not light music at all, but rather aims for one-dimensional higher music. During the recording session, Schuricht asked the members of the orchestra, saying, "If there is anything that deviates from the spirit of Vienna, please return to the right path" and pull out the peace, and as a result the session It is an interesting anecdote that the members did not raise any objections once in a while (detailed in the booklet). We aimed for digitalization so that the information on the analog master tape would not be lost as much as possible. ~Google Interpreter Tracks: 01. 257 00:02:59 Personnel: Carl Schuricht Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera * Limited edition * Stereo recording * SACD layer: MS 24bit Processing 192kHz-24bit remastering (192kHz / 24bit remastering in 2014 from analog master tape owned by Nippon Columbia) * CD layer: Newly remastered in 2015 with digital conversion at 44.1 kHz / 20 bit using Denon A / D converter * There are some parts that are hard to listen to, but they are on the original tape (the missing and noises in the original master are also recorded as they are). Giga 02:48 Gottfried von der Goltz, first violin and conductor of the first-rate Freiburger Barockorchester comes back with a new album dedicated to the violin sonatas of a young - and already brilliant - Telemann. Rarely recorded, these works show a very surprising form as they allow the musician total freedom of expression and ornamentation. These features demonstrate also the unique creative inventiveness already in germ in Telemann's music. Telemann, a deep connoisseur of French an Italian tastes, puts a great delicacy in these sonatas (Francfort, 1715) as he deploys a quite outstanding melodic line and announces the galant style to come. With this release, Gottfried von der Goltz stands as an expert in Telemann as he provides an interpretation that reflects the main features of his works: vibrant and subtle. 13. Artist: Igor Markevitch Title: Stravinsky: Rite of Spring, Tchaikovsky: Nutcracker Suite Year Of Release: 1959 [2016] Label: Tower Records [TDSA-22] Genre: Classical Quality: DSD64 image (*.iso) | FLAC (24bit/88,2 kHz) Total Time: 01:13:33 Total Size: 2,0 GB / 1,1 GB (+3%rec.) A stereo version of the old EMI recording that should be said to be a synonym of Marchevich `` Spring Festival '' The first two Tchaikovsky songs recorded at the same time as SACD. Since its first appearance, Markevich's old EMI (recorded in 1959) board, which is still very popular as a shocking "festival of spring", is the long-awaited first SACD. The bold interpretation and attention to detail are surprising to hear now. Coupling two Tchaikovsky songs with low recurrence frequency while recording at the same time. Two albums have been assembled into one. For this reprint, a new mastering was performed separately for the SACD layer and the CD layer using a 96kHz / 24bit digital master from the home country master. Speaking of Marchevich's "Spring Festival", it is not only one of the masterpieces of the song, but also one of Markevich's many recordings, which is famous for its outstanding performance. It was already talked about in the first recording with the same Philharmonia Orchestra in 1951, and this stereo version, which was re-recorded eight years later, has a shorter playing time and has become more talked about as a more condensed and elaborated recording. Was. The Spring Festival, which has a good sense of balance and good sense, but also calculates instantaneous power and emphasis, was an interpretation that no one had heard before. Of course, the effect is largely due to the stereo recording, and it can be said that it is one of the most successful recordings for the initial stereo recording of the old EMI label. At the time, the Philharmonia Orchestra had a high level of performance skills and did not degrade in terms of quality. By making SACD this time, it is an excellent recording that you can even check the atmosphere at the time. Upon recurrence, two Tchaikovsky songs were coupled. It seems that these two songs were recorded after the "Spring Festival" ended. The recording quality is almost the same, the distinctive and slow interpretation and attention to detail are alive and well. These two songs were infrequently reproduced in the CD era, so this coupling is important in that sense. In addition, these three songs will be all stereo sound sources of the Marchevich & Philharmonia Orchestra left on the former EMI label. ~Google Interpreter Tracks: 01-02. 14. Artist: Istvan Kertesz Title: Brahms: 4 Symphonies & Haydn Variations Year Of Release: 1964, 1973 [2016] Label: Tower Records [PROC-1975~77] Genre: Classical Quality: DSD64 image (*.iso) | FLAC (24bit/88,2 kHz) Total Time: 03:06:15 Total Size: 5,0 GB / 2,98 GB (+3%rec.) The first ever eternal masterpiece of Celtes and the Vienna Philharmonic becomes SACD! Reproduction of the DECCA recording of analog recording at its best using the home country master. An immortal masterpiece, including the "Haydn Variations" with the Vienna Philharmonic, that could not be completed by Kertesz, will be released on the SACD hybrid. On April 16, 1973, Celtes died while swimming in Tel Aviv. The second re-recording did not come true either. The second recording in '64 was the sixth session on the DECCA label for Kertesz and the Vienna Philharmonic. It is a fulfilling performance that can not be thought of as co-starring with the conductor and the Vienna Philharmonic. Then, in '72, we started recording as a complete collection from No. 4, but about a year later he died at the age of 45. These recordings are the highest performances that have been heard for a long time as one of the representative boards of Celtes from the LP era. It was released from King relatively early in the CD era, and has since recurred several times from Universal. However, the frequency of remastering was low for some reason, and because of the early digitization, it was not always possible to say that it had been sold in a state close to the original sound. This time, when we launched this series, we picked up this Kertesz board in order to revive the masterpiece buried recently in terms of sound quality to the present age. As a result, with this SACD conversion, it is now possible to hear detailed nuances that were previously buried in CDs. DECCA's recording technology at that time was very effective for the latest modern reproduction technology, and has the potential to go deeper into the truth of the famous board. Please experience innovative sound quality. In the production of this series, we used sound sources digitized with higher quality than the original analog master tape in our home country, and our dedicated engineers in our country took a long time in mastering work for this series in a detailed process. Was. The important thing about the release is that the reprinting process itself, including the digitization and mastering steps, has evolved over the last few years. Equipment related to digital technology is constantly improving, and it has become possible to produce higher quality and more delicate sound sources. Now you can enjoy the original analog master with higher sound quality. Martinonon's only co-star with VPO, the masterpiece `` pathetic '' and Shostakovich, famous for excellent recording, made the first SA-CD using the home country master! Martinon has the impression that there are many sources of Russian music like other French conductors, such as leaving the complete symphony of Prokofiev, but in other Russian works this `` pathetic '' and another accompaniment board, and Shostakovich's The fact is that we only left the album and there aren't many others. The only reason why Russian music is so special is that each album has a strong impact. "Pathetique" recorded in '57 is the only Vienna Philharmonic co-star with the DECCA label, which has had a strong influence since its release and has been heard as a masterpiece. There's Martinin's command as if he's immersed in the song rather than Russia, and the Vienna Philharmonic's performance, which can be said to be partly wild. This `` pathetic '' has more fans than at the time of release, and in a sense it is a conductor of Martinon who has a unique expression and enthusiasm enough to fuel the orchestra, so the evaluation that it is the only performance that is incomparable is still different today not. With the introduction of SA-CD, the dynamic range of the performance is expanded, and you can also listen to the attractive sounds of each instrument. Please listen to the famous performance that can be said that there is no "pathetic" alternative to this. Coupling Shostakovich is famous as an excellent recording while recording in '58. This is not only a hot, bloody performance, but you can also listen to Martinon's meticulous composition with a certain orchestral skill. With this high-quality digitization, we were able to reproduce more realistic sound images, sound fields, and the sound of each cored instrument. You can enjoy overwhelming sound quality. In the production of this series, we used sound sources digitized with higher quality than the original analog master tape in our home country, and our dedicated engineers in our country took a long time in mastering work for this series in a detailed process. Gradus ad Parnassum, studies for piano, Op. 44: Vol. 3 No. 100: Vivacissimo [0:02:18.32] Performers: Alessandro Marangoni - piano Pianist Alessandro Marangoni completes his survey of Muzio Clementi's Gradus ad Parnassum with this release. Composed over several years, this three-volume collection of keyboard exercises has become one of the standard teaching tools for pianists. But these works aren't just a series of dull and difficult finger exercises. True, within each of the short pieces in this collection a pattern of notes will occur over and over, sometimes obsessively. But Clementi underpins those patterns with interesting and supple harmonies that provides forward motion and musical organization. Most of the 34 exercises in this volume were grouped by Clementi into suites. Each suite, taken as a whole, aesthetically makes sense. Each suite has collection of contrasting movements. A mid-tempo piece is followed by an up-tempo one. A simple, lyrical movement is followed by a complex fugue, and so on. Although the individual pieces are enjoyable enough to listen to, the suites place the movements in context and provide deeper musical meaning to the whole. The contrapuntal pieces were the ones I found most interesting -- Clementi had a facility for writing canons and fugues. The fugues don't sound like Bach warmed over. Just as with the counterpoint of Mozart and Haydn, these movements have a strong melodic flavor to them. These pieces work as music and not just intellectual (or fingering) exercises. Marangoni plays with alacrity and a light touch, making these difficult exercises sound effortless. And more importantly, he makes them sound musical. 21. Artist: Various Artists / Andrew Lawrence-King Title: Andrew Lawrence-King Edition Year Of Release: 2015 Label: Deutsche Harmonia Mundi Genre: Classical Quality: FLAC (image + .cue, log, artwork) Total Time: 11:47:00 Total Size: 2.51 GB Like many of England's finest musicians, Andrew Lawrence-King began his career in choir school, serving as head chorister for the Cathedral and Parish Church of St. Peter Port, Guernsey. He took an organ scholarship to Cambridge University, where he read mathematics, but finished his studies in organ and voice at the London Early Music Centre. A party at a harpmaker's house gave the opportunity for Lawrence-King to own his first early harp, modeled after a Medieval Irish instrument. Without any modern teachers of historical harp performance available, he proceeded to teach himself the technique by studying historical sources, literary, iconographical, and musical. He discovered the "perfection" of plucked instruments, which can play both melody and polyphony. Since then, Lawrence-King has performed with many of the leading early music ensembles in the world, playing continuo and as harp soloist with Hesperion XX, Tragicomedia (which he founded with Stephen Stubbs in 1988), the Harp Consort, and with Christopher Page's Gothic Voices, Paul Hillier's Theatre of Voices, Stephen Stubbs, Ton Koopman, Andrew Parrott, and Paul O'Dette. In addition, he conducts Baroque orchestras throughout Europe. He has been awarded the 1992 Erwin Bodky Award (Cambridge, MA, Society for Early Music), the 1996 American Handel Society Prize (for his recording of Alcina), the 1997 Noah Greenberg Award from the American Musicological Society, and the 1998 Echo Klassik Prize for Best Early Music Recording. The Akademie für Alte Musik in Bremen appointed Lawrence-King professor of harp and continuo; in his spare time, he earned the Yachtmaster Certificate from the Royal Yachting Association. Over 100 recordings of music spanning more than 500 years bear the imprint of his artistry. Improvisation lies at the heart of Andrew Lawrence-King's approach to performing early instrumental music. Though music history clings to its notated sources, he argues that the unwritten traditions of Medieval and Renaissance instrumentalists may be recovered and brought to audiences in a vital way; he has compared his type of improvisation to the vitality of jazz, which follows an "emotional logic" more than a formal one, and which stretches, yet remains within, clear stylistic boundaries. Both the harp and early keyboard instruments have been excellent vehicles for his music, both able to mingle tone colors and effortlessly shift from melodic use to polyphony (he numbers them among the "perfect instruments"). His creative approach shows especially well in a series of collaborative recordings with Paul Hillier and with the work of his ensemble the Harp Consort, founded in 1994 of all continuo improvisers, with group improvisation its aesthetic goal. ~ Timothy Dickey Download links: [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]

Figaro Fantasy on "Il barbiere di Siviglia" Any cellist seeking new repertoire, and any listener in search of Romantic cello sonatas beyond Brahms, will alight upon this album with enthusiasm. Although Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) studied under Ildebrando Pizzetti (1880-1968) at the Conservatoire in Florence during the early years of the 20th century, their paths diverged when the Jewish Castelnuovo-Tedesco had to emigrate to the US in 1938. Back in 1921 Pizzetti had composed a Cello Sonata thematically unified across its three movements, with an 'agitated and anguished' Scherzo at its heart, while the slow outer movements translate elements of medieval chant and polyphony into soulful meditations. Three years later he composed a cycle of Tre Canti - three songs more commonly encountered in the version for violin and piano but better suited to the pitch and expressive range of the cello, so closely molded to that of the human voice. And these really are 'songs without words' - by turns affectionate, tender and impassioned. The younger Castelnuovo-Tedesco was more concerned to establish a mood than to tell a story in his instrumental music, and the first movement of his Cello Sonata from 1928 is an object example of his tendency to face both backwards and forwards, artistically speaking, so that he can evoke Romanticism while simultaneously casting doubt upon its certainties and view them from an anxious distance. The album is rounded off with the delicious fantasy on the Largo al factotum and 'Un voce po' fa' from Il barbiere di Siviglia which Castelnuovo-Tedesco composed in two versions, for Jascha Heifetz and Gregor Piatigorsky, having emigrated and become a fixture on the Hollywood musical scene. Larsson's Pastoral Suite is the best-known music here, and makes a fine overture in its most sprightly recorded chamber performance. The Romance has live intensity, helped by the sound, a classic piece of minimalist work by Bis proprietor, Robert von Bar: just a small Revox half-track reel-to-reel machine, and a couple of mikes above and in front of the conductor. The timbre of the winds is distinctive, thanks to the sound coming off the hard back wall, too, but the small string band has presence-and-a-half. Wedin's direction is inspired here, and in the four gentle Winter's Tale fragments. The tearful, moving Andante used to close out the LP, but on CD the spell is broken by the boisterous Alfvén Dance, then cast again for Blomdahl's heartfelt Adagio. The real highlights are the modest Atterberg Suite, and the Rosenberg cello miniature. The latter is sadness, packed ready to go, but the violin and viola in the Atterberg spin threads of Romantic ardor that float into the air, and resound in your consciousness forever, like it or not. As do the wonderful tunes. The slow middle movement, Pantomim, really lets Sparf's artistry and phrasing shine, closely shadowed by Mansnerus. They should have done the Mozart Sinfonia concertante at the same sessions, but this is inspired playing, and arguably Atterberg's finest 12 minutes. You're the poorer, if you don't know it yet. Roman's 15-minute oboe d'amore concerto represents the Swedish 18th century at its considerable best: a warm contrast with the rest of the program, the soloist sounding rather close, but with memorable invention and interplay in the fast movements. Fine notes, by the eminent Per Skans. There have been a few digital anthologies rather like this one in the intervening 20 years, but Wedin said it all in 1980. A CD of relaxing Swedish lighter classics might not be anywhere near the top of your Want List, just now. Hidebound Romantics should head straight for the Blomdahl Adagio, but I urge you all to sample the whole recital. BIS CD165 is certainly not one of the structural pillars of the Hall of Fame, but it makes a very attractive Swedish display case, for some little-known, meltingly beautiful music. -- Paul Ingram Download links: [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]

Artist: Various Artists Title: A Baroque Christmas Year Of Release: 2012 Label: Ricercar Genre: Classical Quality: FLAC (image + .cue, log, artwork) Total Time: 3:56:29 Total Size: 1011 MB The celebration of the Nativity has always been a source of inspiration for composers. The different elements of the evangelical narrative evoke numerous images: tender feelings before the Baby Jesus; the gentleness of his mother, the Virgin Mary; the procession of the three Wise Men; the angelic choirs in Heaven; and these shepherds gathered in the manger. All that appears in the musical repertoire linked to this holiday, as well as the presence of colourful instrumentations and themes connected to folk traditions. This set, released by Ricercar, brings together all these elements, drawn from the repertoires of the Renaissance and Baroque eras.
