Formed in Mönchengladbach by classically trained art student Jürgen Dollase in autumn 1971 as Blitzkrieg, with an international cast of: American Bill Barone, Dutchman Jerry Berkers, and local friend Harald Grosskopf. After only a couple of concerts, they were quickly spotted and eagerly signed up by Pilz. But, there proved to be a problem, also touring Germany at the time was a British band called Blitzkrieg, so a change of name was needed. They decided on Wallenstein, a notorious character of the Thirty Years War. Wallenstein's debut LP was classical rock with the accent on power, totally befitting the title Blitzkrieg. Further records saw a shift in focus, folkier and more diverse on Mother Universe, which was more Jerry Berkers show (after which he left and went solo), and then the definitive "Symphonic Rock Orchestra Wallenstein" sound of their Kosmische Musik LP's. After Jürgen and Harald collaborated with Ash Ra Tempel members on the Cosmic Jokers' albums, Harald departed and there was then a gradual all-change except for Jürgen, reincarnated with the not bad No More Love before moving into pop music. Most of the songs were later re-recorded by Chris Thomas and bill price for Virgin Records in February-August 1977 and released on "Never Mind The Bollocks". Only a cover version of the Stooges ' "No Fun", recorded in October 1976, was released on the single "Pretty Vacant" (1977). All recordings are made with the participation of the first bass guitarist Glen Matlock. Released a week before " Never Mind The Bollocks "(1977), the bootleg claimed to be an" alternative " version of how the album should have sounded. It is not known who was behind the publication of the bootleg. The rights to the songs were owned by McLaren's firm, the tapes themselves were in the possession of Dave Goodman. Both of them have always denied any involvement in the fact that the bootleg appeared in stores at the same time as "Never Mind The Bollocks", although McLaren openly stated that he did not like the official album. Dans les années 1950 il s'intéresse à la guitare électrique, dont le son l'attire. Il abandonne ses études entreprise en sciences et devient musicien professionnel à l'âge de dix-neuf ans. En 1956, Ebo Taylor se lance dans la musique et commence par rayonner dans le Highlife, genre qui fait déjà l'unanimité dans l'Afrique anglophone dans les années post-indépendance, dont il va par la suite métisser avec les sonorités venues d'Amérique, que ce soit du Nord ou Latine, comme le jazz, funk ou encore calypso. Un équivalent ghanéen de Fela Kuti, dont il croise notamment la route à Londres dans les années 1960. Moins bien distribués que ceux du légendaire roi nigérian de l'afrobeat, ses disques des années 1970, essentiels, sont redécouverts en Europe dans les années 20002. Après s'être produit au Ghana, au Nigéria, en Côte d'Ivoire, au Togo ou au Burkina Faso avec le groupe de highlife Stargazers Band, après avoir perfectionné sa technique guitaristique au sein du Broadway Dance Band, Ebo Taylor se rend en Angleterre en 1962 pour étudier la composition et l'art d'arranger à la Eric Guilder School of Music. Il y rencontre et devient ami avec le nigérien Fela Kuti, futur créateur de la musique « afrobreat ». Tous deux s'intéressent de très près à la musique de Miles Davis, Charlie Parker et John Coltrane. Taylor s'intéresse aussi aux guitaristes de jazz américains tels que Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall, Georges Benson. Après son retour au Ghana en 1965, Taylor est devenu un arrangeur et producteur interne pour des labels tels qu'Essiebons, travaillant avec d'autres stars ghanéennes majeures, dont C.K. Mann et Pat Thomas. Il était payé pour écrire pour eux, jouer de la guitare lors de sessions et superviser des enregistrements. The first disc brings together 19 recordings made for the British labels HMV and Columbia between 1923 and 1933. These are recordings made when Astaire was appearing in stage shows in London, and on eight of them he duets with his sister and dancing partner Adele. Several of the shows had scores written by the Gershwin brothers, and on five tracks George Gershwin provides the piano accompaniment. In "The Half of It, Dearie Blues," he even tap-dances. "How's that, George?" he asks. "That's great, Freddy," replies Gershwin. These are not all of the recordings the artist made during the period; he also cut tracks in New York for Victor between 1931 and 1933, and those are not included. But these original cast recordings are Astaire's earliest, and they are priceless. The second and third discs in the set contain the 36 tracks -- three LP's worth -- a 76-year-old Astaire recorded for United Artists Records in 1975, an album's worth of them with Bing Crosby. His final recordings, they were originally released in Britain as Attitude Dancing (UAS 29885), A Couple of Song and Dance Men (UAS 29888), and They Can't Take That Away From Me (UAS 29941). Original producer Ken Barnes has re-sequenced the tracks for CD, substituting the occasional alternate take, and adding some studio chatter. Astaire, in surprisingly good voice, remakes some of his old favorites, sings several songs of his own composition, and covers a few recent hits such as "My Eyes Adored You." The Crosby duets are pleasant and amusing. The result is not essential, but it possesses the light charm of all Astaire's work. Recorded by Betty Cantor-Jackson, the original master reels were only recently re-discovered, along with a few other reels dubbed the "Houseboat Tapes", and have been remastered for this release. It was the year of this recording that Donna Jean and Keith Godchaux first joined up with the Jerry Garcia Band. Their addition, along with Ron Tutt on drums and bassist John Kahn, helped form what would be one of the most durable lineups of the Garcia Band. In fact, earlier that year Garcia commented "I haven't been as happy with any little performing group since Old And In The Way in terms of feeling 'this is really harmonious, this is what I want to hear.'" That harmonious vibe is especially present as well. Throughout the course of the evening, the band deftly melds gospel, rock, soul, and reggae to form their quintessential mid-70's sound. As one astute critic pointed out, "More than any other Garcia band this one allows him room to run through all his guitar styles, often within a single song." From the opening notes of "The Way You Do The Things You Do", the band lock into a relaxed, but confident groove with Kahn & Tutt's deep pocket providing the foundation for Jerry & Keith's melodic exploration rounded out by Donna Jean's soulful harmonies. The Hunter/Garcia penned "Mission in the Rain" and Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" are particularly poignant and soulful while songs like "Midnight Moonlight", "Tore Up Over You" and "Ride Mighty High" provide the sparks bringing balance to the evening. A 22+ minute "Don't Let Go" stands out not only for its length, but for its exercise in dynamics which further showcases Garcia's comfort not only with the band, but the freedom found in playing smaller rooms tailor-made for they type of music he was looking to create. The three Scarlatti sonatas exude dance, lyricism and virtuosity respectively, whilst Anton Diabelli's engaging Sonata in A, heard in Julian Bream's arrangement, is one of the relatively few extended guitar works of the Classical period. Lennox Berkeley's Sonatina is both elegant and complex. After Malats' popular encore piece Serenata Espanola and Barrios' sublime Un Sueno en la Floresta and Chopin-inspired Vals, the recital concludes with Lopez's richly varied Impresiones y paisajes, inspired by Lorca's first book.
