  1. Artist: The Godfathers Title: Birth, School, Work, Death Year Of Release: 1988 Label: Epic Genre: Pop Rock, New Wave, Post-Punk, Alt Rock Quality: Mp3 320 / Flac (image, .cue, log) Total Time: 37:03 Total Size: 96/264 Mb (scans) Tracklist: 01. Birth, School, Work, Death 02. If I Only Had Time 03. Tell Me Why 04. It's So Hard 05. When Am I Coming Down 06. Cause I Said So 07. The Strangest Boy 08. S.T.B. 09. Just Like You 10. Obsession 11. Love Is Dead Line-up:: Bass, Vocals - Chris Coyne Drums, Percussion, Vocals - George Mazur Guitar, Vocals - Kris Dollimore, Mike Gibson Vocals - Peter Coyne The Godfathers missed the British punk revolution by a decade and were a few years too early before loud guitars became fashionable in England again. Consequently, the group's 1988 LP Birth, School, Work, Death is often overlooked. Released during the U.K. rave craze of the late '80s, Birth, School, Work, Death must've seemed completely dated in the barrage of pulsating electronic sounds that enveloped Britain at the time. Wearing Mafia suits and skinny ties, the Godfathers had a mean look that matched their name. And their sound was similarly tough: brass-knuckled punches in the form of menacing, explosive riffs; venom-spewing, nihilistic vocals; body-slamming percussion. Yet the Godfathers never forget the importance of the hook. The bleak title track -- with its gloomy shouted chorus of "Birth, School, Work, Death" -- has head-bobbing basslines and a toe-tapping drum beat. "I cut myself but I don't bleed/'Cause I don't get what I need/And it doesn't matter what I say/Tomorrow's still another day," Peter Coyne spits, the bile in his voice bringing back memories of Johnny Rotten's snotty rage in the Sex Pistols' "God Save the Queen" as well Roger Daltrey's adolescent anguish in the Who's "My Generation". "Birth, School, Work, Death" is followed by two other rockers, "If I Only Had Time" and "Tell Me Why", that are equally catchy and filled with ticked-off confessions such as "If I only had time/I'd think of the perfect crime." But the Godfathers are from being one-dimensional. "Just Like You" is an upbeat love song and on "When Am I Coming Down" guitarist Kris Dollimore helps illustrate an acid trip gone wrong with swirling, disorienting guitars that recall Jimi Hendrix' moments of sonic transcendence. Coyne's spoken-word bit in "When Am I Coming Down" is chilling, told from the point-of-view of someone who has just overdosed on drugs. The production by Vic Maile is clean yet it doesn't soften the Godfathers' two-fisted attack. Download links: [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]

The Jam - In The City (Live at Wembley Dec 3rd 1982) As good mods, the Jam always had a healthy respect for R&B and soul even the first album featured the revved-up Northern soul of "Non-Stop Dancing." With The Gift, however, Paul Weller seems to have become completely absorbed in it, and more specifically, in Stax-style soul with more than a hint of psychedelia à la "Psychedelic Shack." An uneven album marked by overindulgences like the instrumental "Circus" and unnecessarily long songs, The Gift still has no shortage of terrific songs, like the simply sublime "Ghost," "Town Called Malice" (the hit), and the funk workout of "Precious." Weller can obviously do "soulful" his voice has never sounded better but unfortunately, The Gift, with its excesses and marginal tracks, doesn't show his talents in the proper light. Points for ambition, but ultimately, this is their least consistent effort since This Is the Modern World. The Jam - The Modern World (Live At The Brighton Centre) 19. The Jam - Heat Wave (Live At The Brighton Centre) 20. The Jam - 'A' Bomb In Wardour Street (Live At The Brighton Centre) The Jam's Setting Sons was originally planned as a concept album about three childhood friends who, upon meeting after some time apart, discover the different directions in which they've grown apart. Only about half of the songs ended up following the concept due to a rushed recording schedule, but where they do, Paul Weller vividly depicts British life, male relationships, and coming to terms with entry into adulthood. Weller's observations of society are more pointed and pessimistic than ever, but at the same time, he's employed stronger melodies with a slicker production and comparatively fuller arrangements, even using heavy orchestration for a reworked version of Bruce Foxton's "Smithers-Jones." Setting Sons often reaches brilliance and stands among the Jam's best albums, but the inclusion of a number of throwaways and knockoffs (especially the out-of-place cover of "Heat Wave" which closes the album) mars an otherwise perfect album. 5. Artist: Cindy Lee Title: What's Tonight To Eternity Year Of Release: 2020 Label: W.25TH Records Genre: Alternative Quality: Mp3 320 kbps / FLAC (tracks) Total Time: 42:04 Total Size: 96.4 / 226 MB Tracklist: 1. Plastic Raincoat (03:23) 2. I Want You To Suffer (07:38) 3. The Limit (04:24) 4. What's Tonight To Eternity (02:08) 5. One Second To Toe The Line (03:02) 6. Lucifer Stand (07:21) 7. Speaking From Above (05:34) 8. Just For Loving You I Pay The Price (04:40) 9. Heavy Metal (04:00) For Patrick Flegel, Cindy Lee is more than just a recording music project. It is the culmination of a lifelong exploration of art, the electric guitar, queer identity and gender expression. "Singers like Patsy Cline and The Supremes carried me through the hardest times of my life," explains Flegel, "and also provided the soundtrack to the best times." Following the dissolution of Canadian experimental indie band Women, Flegel would delve deeper into songwriting that bends further toward high atmospherics and bracing melodies - a unique space where splendor naturally collides with experimentation. Delivering moments of sheer beauty through somber reflections on longing and loneliness, Cindy Lee is something to hold onto in a world of disorder. What's Tonight To Eternity, Cindy Lee's fifth long-form offering, showcases the project's most entrancing strengths: ethereal snowdrift pop and sly nods toward classic girl-group motifs. Recorded at Flegel's Realistik Studios in Toronto and featuring younger brother Andrew Flegel on drums, the album travels hand in hand with a spectral guide. Flegel found inspiration for Cindy Lee in the form of Karen Carpenter, drawing on the singer / drummer's early recordings as well as her look and style. "I found a deep interest and comfort in Karen's story, which is a cautionary tale about the monstrosity of show business, stardom at a young age and being a misfit looking for connection. The darkness and victimizing tabloid sensationalism she suffered is easily tempered and overwhelmed by her earnest output, her artistry, her tireless work ethic. Something utterly unique and magical takes shape in the negative space, out of exclusion. What I relate to in her has to do with what is hidden, what is unknown." What's Tonight To Eternity remains a mix of pop culture indoctrination, pain and suffering, hopes and dreams, fierce confrontations and wide-open confessional blurs. Closing with the song "Heavy Metal" (dedicated to the memory of former Women bandmate Chris Reimer) and adorned by Andrea Lukic's Journal of Smack artwork, the album continues the bold and rewarding path on which Cindy Lee has embarked. As The Flys, they issued a self-financed five-track EP at the end of the year before signing with EMI on the back of a tour with Buzzcocks. Over the next three years, The Flys were responsible for a dazzling run of witty, supremely melodic, endlessly inventive singles and two superb albums, "Waikiki Beach Refugees" and "Own", with the latter standing some forty years later as the Great Lost Album of the pop-punk era. However, a lack of commercial success and endless internal bickering saw guitarist, singer and chief songwriter Neil O'Connor pull the plug in mid-1980 to join sister Hazel - who'd been spotted while supporting The Flys at a Marquee Club gig - during her rise to prominence with the film Breaking Glass. Today Belongs To Me is the first complete anthology of a band that, despite critical acclaim and major label support, somehow fell through the cracks. It includes every known studio recording - including that early pre-EMI EP - as well as nine previously unreleased, from-the-masters studio demos, with two early versions of 1979 single 'Living In The Sticks' joined by seven previously-unheard late Seventies songs in the classic Flys tradition. Presented in 2-CD digipak format, and featuring a new essay on the band that includes numerous quotes from Neil O'Connor, Today Belongs To Me is the definitive document of the greatest pop-punk band never to score a Top Thirty single. What She Don't Know 12. Everybody's Girl 13. Happens All The Time 14. She American punk power pop rock'n'roll band from Boston, Massachusetts formed as The Kids in 1972 by John Felice after he left The Modern Lovers. Okay, this is a little complicated, but bear with us. In the beginning, or at least in 1975, there were the Real Kids, maybe the best pop-punk band Boston ever offered up. Their fantastic self-titled debut came out in 1977, but it stiffed commercially. The Real Kids broke up and leader John Felice became a roadie for the Ramones. Then, in late 1978, Felice formed the Taxi Boys, who were basically the Real Kids with a slightly reshuffled lineup and a new name, and released an EP that was nearly the equal of the Real Kids' debut. Then for some reason, Felice and company went back to using the Real Kids name and released their second (third?) album, 1979's sweaty, garage-rockin' OUTTA PLACE. Got it? NO PLACE FAST is a CD reissue of the TAXI BOYS EP and OUTTA PLACE, and it's prime late '70s pop-punk, as good as the genre gets. Tickling In My Corner Line-up:: Bass Guitar, Guitar [Bottom], Piano, Organ, Cello, Backing Vocals - Russ Wilkins Drums - Bruce Brand Written-By, Vocals [Singing], Guitar, Organ - Eric Goulden One of the many fascinating detours in the career of Eric Goulden -- the singer, guitarist, and songwriter best known as Wreckless Eric -- was the Len Bright Combo, a purposefully eccentric garage rock band he formed with the rhythm section from Thee Milkshakes. In late 1984, Goulden's short-lived band Captains of Industry fell apart shortly after releasing their sole album, and he relocated to Chatham, Kent in Southeast England. The town had a lively music scene, dominated by Billy Childish's garage-style beat combo Thee Milkshakes, and after seeing the band on-stage, the newly sober Goulden was inspired to launch a new project. After approaching Milkshakes bassist Russ Wilkins, the two agreed for form a new group. Wilkins brought along Milkshakes drummer Bruce Brand to complete the lineup, and Brand coined the name the Len Bright Combo; the fact no one in the band was named Len Bright was meant to be part of the fun. The Len Bright Combo Present the Len Bright Combo by the Len Bright ComboThe Combo took a purposefully low-key approach to their work, touring in a battered van with their own small PA system and deliberately playing small and unfashionable venues, developing a cult following along the way. Turning down offers from major labels, Goulden and company opted to record their debut album (The Len Bright Combo Present the Len Bright Combo by the Len Bright Combo) on their own dime and released it through their own Empire Records label. The album, recorded in just two days at the Upchurch Village Hall using a portable recording rig, cost a mere 86 pounds to make, but while its raw sound would become fashionable a few years down the line, a lack of airplay and no record company push prevented it from making a dent in the marketplace. (According to Goulden, the debut moved less than 2,000 copies.) Combo Time!A second album, It's Combo Time, appeared later the same year, but didn't fare much better, and in September 1986, the group's spirit was broken when, while driving home from a show in Bristol, their van was in an accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian. Brand soon left the group, and while Goulden and Wilkins played a few shows with a substitute drummer, in 1987 the Len Bright Combo announced their breakup. In 1991, Goulden, Wilkins and Brand played a handful of gigs backing Phil May and Dick Taylor of the Pretty Things, but Goulden soon resumed his solo career as Wreckless Eric, and after relocating to the United States, began an ongoing collaboration with his wife, Amy Rigby. Wilkins played with the bands the Prisoners and the Wildebeests, and Brand would back up Holly Golightly and collaborate with Billy Childish. In 2013, Fire Records reissued the two Len Bright Combo albums, and the original lineup reunited for a single show in London. 20. Artist: Sex Pistols Title: No Future U.K.? Year Of Release: 1989 Label: Receiver Records Limited CD RR 117 Genre: Punk Quality: FLAC (image+.cue, log, scans) Total Time: 00:55:50 Total Size: 309 MB "Spunk" included the earliest Sex Pistols Studio samples-demo and rehearsal recordings made in various studios from may 1976 to January 1977. all sessions were Produced by the Sex Pistols concert sound engineer Dave Goodman. Most of the songs were later re-recorded by Chris Thomas and bill price for Virgin Records in February-August 1977 and released on "Never Mind The Bollocks". Only a cover version of the Stooges ' "No Fun", recorded in October 1976, was released on the single "Pretty Vacant" (1977). All recordings are made with the participation of the first bass guitarist Glen Matlock. Released a week before " Never Mind The Bollocks "(1977), the bootleg claimed to be an" alternative " version of how the album should have sounded. It is not known who was behind the publication of the bootleg. The rights to the songs were owned by McLaren's firm, the tapes themselves were in the possession of Dave Goodman. Both of them have always denied any involvement in the fact that the bootleg appeared in stores at the same time as "Never Mind The Bollocks", although McLaren openly stated that he did not like the official album. In the following years, the bootleg was repeatedly published under different names ("Mini Album", " No Future UK?", "There Is No Future") and with different content (common were the July 1976 demos). In 1996, "Spunk "was officially released for the first time as an additional disc to the reissue of the album"Never Mind The Bollocks". Finally, in 2006, "Spunk" was officially released as a separate edition on Castle/Sanctuary Records. In addition, recordings with "Spunk" are often found in various pirated Sex Pistols compilations. 22. Artist: Names Without Numbers Title: Silos & Smokestacks Year Of Release: 2019 Label: Indie Vision Music Genre: Alternative, Indie Rock, Pop Punk Quality: 320 / FLAC (tracks) Total Time: 30:26 Total Size: 73 / 216 Mb Tracklist: 1. For Today (2:58) 2. Style (3:50) 3. Middle Ground (3:26) 4. The Apathy Anthem (3:02) 5. Firing Squad (3:50) 6. The Dragonfly and the Owl (3:36) 7. Inside My Head (3:57) 8. I'm the Bad Guy (3:16) 9. Goodnight (2:30) For only having one album to its name, Names Without Numbers did surprisingly well in its short time. Running Marathons / Chasing Ambulances led the band to playing shows with giants like Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional, but the band was put to rest not long after. 16 years later, though, the guys are back at it once again with their long-awaited sophomore album, Silos & Smokestacks. What's interesting about this album is that its best songs are on the back half of the tracklist. Usually it's the other way around, with the front half packed with the prime picks to accommodate shorter attention spans. But not so for Names Without Numbers. The first three tracks aren't bad by any means (even the cover of Taylor Swift's "Style," even if it is guilty-pleasure listening), but the album starts really picking up steam at track four, "The Apathy Anthem," which mixes general alternative rock with a slight hint of pop punk. "Firing Squad" then comes on the scene with an interesting blend of Jimmy Eat World and The Rocket Summer. The singer laments about a lot of bad circumstances that keep piling up and making for an absolutely miserable day, but tackles it with an anthemic chorus that says, "Lift your head and dry your eyes / you've been through this a thousand times / keep taking your hits with some gracefulness and get up again, it never ends / up against the firing squad / you ask yourself if there's a God / but if not for darkness, you'd never notice the light." "Inside My Head" and "The Dragonfly and the Owl" are a strong pair of tracks with some ballad-like tendencies and subtle electronic elements that cause them to really stand out. The former has some excellent music in the chorus that makes for one of my favorite aspects of the whole album. Far and away my favorite track, though, is "Goodnight." As good as Silos & Smokestacks is, this closing track is the example of when Names Without Numbers is at its best. "The Dragonfly and the Owl" is a fairly close second, but the driving, almost gritty rock sound of "Goodnight," a sound that brings to mind some of the best of Yellowcard, makes me want a full album's worth of it. I wasn't familiar with Names Without Numbers during their initial run, but even nearly two decades later, Running Marathons / Chasing Ambulances holds up really well. And I'm glad to hear a worthy follow-up in Silos & Smokestacks. While I do think the album may be a little too diverse in its exploration of rock and alternative subgenres, there isn't really anything here that the band doesn't do well. Fans of early '00s emo and pop rock will want to dive into this one for sure. Download links: [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]

    WIVES - So Removed (2019)

Artist: WIVES Title: So Removed Year Of Release: 2019 Label: City Slang Genre: Alternative, Noise Rock, Punk Quality: 320 / FLAC (tracks) Total Time: 40:24 Total Size: 97 / 286 Mb Tracklist: 1. Waving Past Nirvana (3:35) 2. The 20 Teens (3:45) 3. Servants (2:48) 4. Hit Me Up (3:10) 5. Whatevr (1:59) 6. Even the Dead (5:41) 7. Why Is Life (2:56) 8. Sold out Seatz (3:22) 9. Workin' (5:49) 10. Hideaway (2:50) 11. The Future Is a Drag (4:29) Sometimes when you aren't expecting it, you get the pleasure of stumbling across a sound that you know the instant you hear it, will be huge. The sound has to be familiar yet new, not rehashed but built upon its influence. It can't be copied but has to respect where it, the sound, comes from. Queens, NY based WIVES, on their debut album So Removed, has crafted a sound that is going to fill music halls, bars and wherever else they want to play with fans who love noisy, smart, distorted punk rock. WIVES, consisting of Jay Beach (guitar/vocals), Adam Sachs (drums), Andrew Bailey (guitar) and Alex Crawford (bass), draw from so many influences you'll keep finding new sonic angles with each listen. Opener and first single "Waving Past Nirvana" is a churning grinder of a start. Beach's vocal is a maniacal mix of James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem and Woody Allen at his most neurotic, overlaying driving bass and distortion-drenched riffs that would make the songs namesake band proud. Listen again, and again, and again, because the song is so nuanced you'll get something new with each listen. After the assault of the opener, the album crashes into the anthemic "The 20 Teens", a hook-laden 80's-infused rocker. Beach transforms on this song, becoming more Bowie with a touch of Nick Marsh (Flesh For Lulu), crooning/oozing the lyric "Reading all the magazines, in dungarees" which smashes headfirst into an Arctic Monkeys driven chorus of "The 20 Teens will come alive". The song is spectacular and massive to the point where you can't help but sing along. "Servants" sees the guys bringing their love of Doolittle-era Pixies to the world. "All the people, they go blind. To be servants to the right", followed by the snarl "Who you serving?" is true 21st century punk. The defiance on this song is reminiscent of the Sex Pistols at their pinnacle, punching their commentary right in the listener's mug. "Hit Me Up", the second single, is the biggest and baddest song of the album, loaded with so many chord changes you feel like you are listening to three different bands tossed in a blender. Opening with a guitar riff reminiscent of The Cure's "One Hundred Years", it melts into a bridge of Iggy Pop and The Stooges and a pre-chorus full of Cheap Trick power chords, ending in a chorus which is a Frankenstein's monster of all three sounds. It's a brilliant song. As So Removed moves along, it shows some redundancy, parking some of the lesser tracks in the back half. "Whatevr" is a surf punk frolicker, full of rapid-fire hi-hat beats and harmonies. "Sold Out Seatz" falls flat, a failed attempt at a shouted chorus that is more to blame on the song's production than the crafting. "Even The Dead" and "Workin" having similar beginnings, but "Workin" builds into a wall of distortion and bass lines blasting your face. Wrapping with appropriately synth-heavy "The Future Is A Drag", Beach challenges the listener to sing along with him, a touch which shows confidence beyond his years.
