For starters, hunters should not get their hopes up about any unreleased material on this box set -- there are exactly three cuts, two are unfinished demo versions of songs already on their respective albums -- "Two Grey Rooms" and "Good Friends" -- as well as an unreleased cover version of Dylan's "It's All Over Now Baby Blue." But that's fine, just fine. The bottom line is that these records haven't been available in some time due to the profound folly of the accountants who run the Geffen imprint who wouldn't know art if it were hanging in their living rooms. The box is stunning, gorgeous even in its earth-tone glory with a brilliant inset photograph by former husband and producer Larry Klein. There are poignant photos, the albums in their original sleeves, a completely searing unapologetic set of liner notes from Mitchell, reproductions of paintings, and more. Mitchell's comments, which introduce many of the songs here, are priceless. These and the liner notes are almost worth the price of the box. The only design problem seems to be that the booklet falls apart a bit from its stitching, but that's not really a big deal.
However, there is the music to contend with. When Mitchell entered the '80s with Wild Things Run Fast, her first studio album of the decade coming off the Mingus and the transcendent Shadows And Light tour. Lyrically, Mitchell met the challenge head on, and musically, she did as she always did: followed her own Muse deeper into the realms of jazz and classic American pop. She collaborated with Larry Klein for the first time -- as she has ever since -- and began using small core bands with Klein's bass as an anchor and numerous guests including Wayne Shorter, Lionel Ritchie, Brenda Russell, Alex Acuña; even Grasshopper from Mercury Rev made an appearance on Night Ride Home. On this box it becomes obvious that Wild Things Run Fast set a template for four very different, yet linked, recordings. With its jazzy edges and its liberal use of early rock and roll and classic R&B (at one point in "Chinese Laundry" Mitchell does a very moving rendition of "Unchained Melody," and at another covers Leiber and Stoller's "You're So Square").
Critics were downright hostile to Dog Eat Dog, from the cover on in to the music. Given its dark meditations on the era, it's use of Thomas Dolby and technology, it flew in the face of '80s-styled simple, shiny rock, and took to task both the rampant materialism of the age, and its complete abandonment of human concerns for commerce and cultural iconography. It also laughed at the forced simplicity of popular music at the time with a rampant sophistication and cool. Chalk Mark In A Rain Storm, with its Native American themes and mystical jazz tropes, is simply a brilliant recording that was received with kindness, and even some understanding by critics, but it sold miserably even though its guests reflected a who's who of the MTV era: Peter Gabriel, Billy Idol, Don Henley, Tom Petty, and Wendy and Lisa (from Prince's band). Night Ride Home garnered decent reviews as well; it featured a stripped down, more acoustic sound, and is one of the most lyrically brilliant and ambitious of Mitchell's many albums. Here was a long reflection on endings, dark ambiguities, and the willingness to stay inside a place that offers no certainty in order to live one's way into an answer. Tracks like "The Windfall," "Slouching Toward Bethlehem," "Cherokee Louise," and "Come In From The Cold," offer a vision of steadfastness in dark and wavering trials of the soul. Her version of Dylan's "Baby Blue" here is a real bonus; it's a revelatory reading of a monolithic song. Revealing her to still be full of the trickster's promise and the visionary's unwavering gaze into the future, this is a box set worthy of Mitchell's contribution.

The brilliant young guitarist Kyuhee Park, winner of the 2010 Agustin Barrios and 2012 Alhambra International Guitar competitions, has crafted a recital that focuses on a sequence of sonatas and a quartet of evocative character pieces. The three Scarlatti sonatas exude dance, lyricism and virtuosity respectively, whilst Anton Diabelli's engaging Sonata in A, heard in Julian Bream's arrangement, is one of the relatively few extended guitar works of the Classical period. Lennox Berkeley's Sonatina is both elegant and complex. After Malats' popular encore piece Serenata Espanola and Barrios' sublime Un Sueno en la Floresta and Chopin-inspired Vals, the recital concludes with Lopez's richly varied Impresiones y paisajes, inspired by Lorca's first book.

Garcia Live Volume 3 is a three-CD Set featuring over two and a half hours of previously unreleased music from Jerry Garcia's short lived touring band Legion of Mary.
This set features live performances from the Pacific Northwest dating from December 14-15 1974, and the audio is mastered from original soundboard recordings.
Legion of Mary consisted of Garcia (guitar/vocals), Merl Saunders (keyboards/vocals), John Kahn (bass), Martin Fierro (saxophone) and Ron Tutt (drums).

We have paired their self-titled first album Southern Pacific from 1985 with their 1988 release Zuma fitting them nicely onto one CD. Wounded Bird. 2003.

Drummer Skip Prokop formed Lighthouse in 1968 and began adding members soon after: guitarist Ralph Cole (whom Prokop had played with in the Paupers), Grant Fullerton, Pinky Dauvin, saxophonist Howard Shore, cellist Dick Armin, violinist Don DiNovo, keyboard player Paul Hoffert, saxophonist Keith Jollimore, vocalist Bob McBride, trumpeter Peter Pantaluk, trombonist Larry Smith and bassist Louis Yackniw. The band released two singles on RCA in 1970 and played at the Newport and Monterey Jazz Festivals and the Isle of Wight Festival, though they had turned down Woodstock. In late 1970, GRT released Lighthouse's debut album, Peacing It All Together. 1971 brought One Fine Morning and Thoughts of Movin' On, and in 1972, the band released Lighthouse Live! and Sunny Days. The band lost members, beginning in 1973 when Paul Hoffert left, followed by Bob McBride and Skip Prokop in 1974; the group eventually disbanded in 1976. Lighthouse had released Can You Feel It (1973) and Good Day (1974), and in 1975, The Best of Lighthouse appeared. Original members re-formed for live shows in 1982 and 1993, and another greatest hits album, The Best of Lighthouse -- Sunny Days Again, was issued in 1989. Postcards from Heaven followed in 1998. Both Bob McBride and Skip Prokop had somewhat successful solo careers. Sadly, Bob McBride lost his battle with substance abuse February 20, 1998. He was 51.

Muse will release a massive vinyl/CD box set called Origin of Muse in November. This package will chronicle the band's earliest days through to their breakthrough album Origin Of Symmetry.
The box set features nine CDs, four coloured vinyl records and offers 113 tracks in total with 40 of those previously unreleased. Rare audio includes early demos, first EPs, B-sides, live performances and more. This content is spread across the nine CDs. The coloured vinyl records (ocean blue, light blue, orange and yellow) feature the two studio albums remastered.
All the vinyl and CD content is housed in a 48-page 'casebound' book which is slots into a rigid board outer slipcase with anti-scratch and matte laminated finish with a spot gloss. The vinyl resides in four special pockets in the book (two at the front and two at the back).
The book contains an extensive and in-depth interview with Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard and Chris Wolstenholme (conducted by Mark Beaumont) where they talk about the beginnings of the band, and the recording and release of their debut album Showbiz through Origin of Symmetry. The volume also boasts many 'inserts' such as setlists, photos, posters and contact sheets which can be pulled out from the book.

The Funnel is the debut album by composer, instrument builder and artist Wojciech Rusin.
Combining field recordings from Port Talbot Steelworks, self built electro acoustic instruments and vocals drawn from alchemical texts and renaissance polyphony, The Funnel is chamber-musique-concrète for the wondering troubadour of the 21st century.
"Passport to an OBSCENELY DYNAMIC, contemplative dimension - "The Funnel" is a set of ancient imaginations in a stranglehold of electronics and steel factory atmosfears, originally composed for Radiophrenia by Wojciech Rusin and now gloriously pressed and presented by Glasgow based Akashic Records.
Equipped with some adapted instruments and occultist readings (decent dose of RATHER GLOOMY Greek-Egyptian philosophy in there too) Rusin composes and engineers an unpredictably celestial moving picture for the ear - the auto-tuned intro "Paolo's Dream" and the bellowing baritones of "Salvation" diffusing into a solemn soul-purging of post-pythagorean(?) electro-organums.
"Transmutation" sounds like a petri dish of duplicating cells, contorted beauty with strings soaring like some sorta solar wind, the internalised ecstasy fading into the ambient clatter and percussion of "Cyclops". The brain really scrambles trying to find points of reference - so we'll shoot from the hip and go for some ridiculous meeting point between Księżyc's "Rabbit Eclipse" and the more contemporary work of Pierre Bastien.
Side B offers further consuming, haunted chamber music - "Sacrifice" sounds like some possessed, hologram'd high priest drowning in a sea of sub-bass and gristly electronics before rounding up this destabilising noggin-scrambler with the near ten minute Open Music enchantment "Jupiter".
