Consistency and high-quality delivery have earned the band around Piet Sielck a large and loyal fanbase. In 2017, the band started a special project: Their first five studio albums were no longer available at that time (but the band could not simply re-release them for legal reasons), so they decided to re-record some highlight tracks of the Noise Records years. The result, Reforged - Riding On Fire, was received positively throughout and made the fans ask for more. The history of Iron Savior is full of highlights, and there are many more gems that were not selected for a re-recording at that time due to capacity reasons. Thus it quickly became clear: "Reforged" goes into the second round, and Reforged - Ironbound (Vol. 2) will be coming out on August 2022, via AFM Records! "This time we picked 23 songs, which is significantly more than the first "Reforged" part had", says bandleader Piet Sielck. "The very positive response to "Reforged - Riding On Fire" made us consider a second part. Through direct fan feedback, we then also became aware of how many songs were still slumbering there, which deserved to be suggested for a remake." The 23 tracks of the new double album Reforged - Ironbound (Vol. 2) represent a real bastion, both quantitatively and qualitatively. "I am very satisfied with the result," Sielck states. "It's always up to the fans out there to evaluate something like this, but in my opinion, our second part of "Reforged" surpasses its predecessor. It was great fun to approach the songs again." Piet adds with a smile: "I'm especially happy that both Jan and Piesel as well as Kai (Hansen) were able to play or sing their original parts. It's hard to believe that it's been nearly a decade since Regal Worm first emerged from the mud. And what a long segmented body of work it has been with no less than five albums under its clitellum! (look it up, it's not a rude word). With a small bag of heavy friends, Varrod Goblink continues to create astonishing music in his very own loft laboratory. Crammed with a growing number of vintage, dusty instruments, clean vintage instruments, computer tech foolery and weird looking banks of machines festooned with twiddly knobs, a visitor might wonder if they'd accidentally wandered into some sort of TARDIS. Varrod has added even more wide ranging musical ingredients into the cosmic soup; from the skittering tribal rhythms of afro hippie rock in Bong Song to the New Wave Devo 7/4 time jerkiness of Hop. The infectiously bouncy and green minded, Chlorophyllia evokes the memory of eighties post punk popsters, Fun Boy Three (if they'd harked from Dagobah rather than Coventry) and there's even an electronica nod to Varrod's mother band, the hitmakers, I Monster, no less. Lyrically, this new outing is tonally more wriggly and playful than last year's album, (The Hideous Goblink. Do we need to mention the title again?) which reflected on the troubling issues we currently face this century. Worm! does not dwell on such dark matters this time around. In Regal Wishbone, Varrod contemplates if humans could only fly wondrously like birds and in Don't Freak Out The Creatures our hero then considers space travel as the only way forward. When the listener really takes flight is experiencing the grandiose nine and a quarter minute long Kazakhstan folk/jazz/EDM centre piece symphony, The Steppe Nomad Space Program, a tale full of hope as extraterrestrials exit their craft in the Steppe only to be greeted by fellow nomads of the humankind. It's not all Sci-fi Ray Bradbury-land though; for your delight, there is the cosmological and ecclesiastical sounding (with a dash of acid techno thrown in) Is There Anything Blacker Than A Black Cat?, wistful synth-heavy numbers like Dindy Super, a nostalgic lament for the simple pleasures of a cheap audio cassette tape and the filmic space-funk track, Green Beetle, Plate 31 that examines the chemistry of aphrodisiacs and marks the first love song ever composed by Regal Worm. Reminiscent, in places, of a less-precious successor to Quintessence and the Incredible String Band in that moods and esotericism do sometimes get the better of the band's more conventional music impulses, Jade Warrior is nevertheless a remarkable album, all the more so since its makers could readily have given the likes of Jethro Tull and the Moody Blues some serious competition in the mellifluous prog stakes. Glyn Havard's vocals themselves can sound extraordinarily Ian Anderson-ish in places, with Field's wielding of the flute and some distinctly edgy tempos only furthering that impression. Elsewhere, however, the same tools combine to induce emotions that range from trance to terror, an accomplishment that means highlights of the album are difficult to single out. Since her 2001 self-titled debut, she has stayed true-blue to the genre, never veering into crossover territory. Partial credit goes to her beaut of an East Texas twang, which she doesn't try to flatten into something it's not. On her ninth studio album, Lambert plays around with rock 'n' roll and blues, but it's also so country. "I'm out in the Mojave, call me Ricky, call me Bobby," she dares on the muscular "Actin' Up," like a modern-day Jerry Reed. "Call me hotter than wasabi/ Cause I'm actin' up." Three of these songs were first heard on The Marfa Tapes, her acoustic, raw-to-the-bone 2021 collaboration with singer-songwriters Jon Randall and Jack Ingram. "In His Arms" gets a richer, rounder studio treatment, and "Waxahachie" is filled out with cool '80s guitar. "Geraldene" is even more of a hoot, alive with juke-joint fire and Keith Richards-style guitar. Outlaw fun in the tradition of Loretta Lynn's "You Ain't Woman Enough," it finds Lambert confidently stuttering the title as she delivers devastating couplets: "I could see you coming all the way from Amarillo/ Truck stop red lips pullin' on some nicotine/ Shining like the spoke on a brand new El Dorado/ You're trailer park pretty, but you're never gonna be Jolene." The singer also pulls out an unexpected, faithful cover of Mick Jagger's "Wandering Spirit," turning the rockabilly flair up to 11. "Strange" is an instant classic vibrant with Fleetwood Mac vibes, while "Country Money" has a cool '70s AOR feel-complete with Joe Walsh-esque guitar-and a winking storyline about getting rich without getting fancy: "Connie Johnson got a farm in Wisconsin and a diesel in the drive . and the best beef in the cheese state, baby"; "Carol Jean, she's the chicken-egg queen ... drives her hens around town in a Coupe de Ville." There's a Gene Autry lope to "If I Was a Cowboy," along with a modern-day attitude: "So mamas, if your daughters grow up to be cowboys, so what?" "Carousel" is an acoustic stunner with a tender music-box melody and a storyline full of rich symbolism-about "pretty Elena," who has a secret past life, her heart having been broken by a big-top man. "She walked the high wire back in the '80s . hanging from the top tent rafters 'til the spotlight disappeared. The way he earned her trust was on a 20-foot trapeze/ She fell so hard because he always let her fly/ 'Til he left her heart suspended in a cotton-candy sky." And "Music City Queen" might not hold up for a future "Best Of" record, but it's fun right now. Swirling in swamp-blues guitar, it features the B-52's on backing vocals-including Fred Schneider doing a kitsch call-and-response-and witty lines (about a river boat!) like "She's had the same red carpet since '79 and she was 'ah, ah, stayin' alive.'"
