A magyar kriminalisztika történetében rendhagyó a gyilkosság, mert képtelen körülmények között, egy nővérszállás földszinti ablakában történt. A tettre készülőt a gyilkosság előtti órákban és rögtön azt követően többen látták. Alakjáról, sajátos mozgásáról, furcsa futásáról, fejformájáról, hajszínéről, arcának karakteréről, ruházatáról meglehetősen pontos és sokban megegyező leírást adtak – mégsem került rendőrkézre.Labancz Anna halála a honi kriminalisztika egyik legendás ügyévé vált, megoldása azóta sincs, noha a rejtélyt nyomozók generációi próbálták megfejteni, némelyek szinte már mániákusan.
