Fugue On his ninth and tenth of a total of fourteen CDs of Bach's collected organ works, Kåre Nordstoga pulls together much of what was not collected from the composer's side - preludes and fugues. The double form prelude (or toccata) and fugue has been an established form of composition since the 1600s. The North Germans Dietrich Buxtehude and Georg Böhm made a powerful contribution to this contrastive style in which the freer first part and the more rigorous second part are united in a dynamic whole. The young Johann Sebastian harvested significant impressions from these two composers during his time in Lübeck and Lüneburg, and this album was recorded in Lüneburg. As cathedral organist at Oslo Cathedral, Nordstoga frequently performs a large repertoire, which has included two popular concert series with Bach's complete organ works. His recordings include the organ music of Bach, Brahms, Franck, Widor, and Liszt, all of Bach's violin sonatas recorded on the cathedral's chancel organ in collaboration with violinist Geir Inge Lotsberg, as well as several recordings of Norwegian organ music. 9. Artist: Hvoslef Chamber Music Project Title: Hvoslef: Chamber Works No. V Year Of Release: 2018 Label: Lawo Classics Genre: Classical Quality: flac 24bits - 48.0kHz +Booklet Total Time: 00:48:07 Total Size: 433 mb Tracklist 01. Perpetuum Trompetuum 02. Trio for Oboe, Viola & Percussion 03. Trio V.C.P. per Violino, Corno e Pianoforte 04. Kammerspill Ketil Hvoslef (b. 1939) is a productive, versatile and undogmatic composer who - well into his seventies - continues to write music at a furious pace. Hvoslef's style is characterized by an ecomony of means, the accumulation of latent energy, rhythmical ingenuity and, often, an element of humour. "Hvoslef Chamber Works No. V" is the fifth in a series of nine albums of Ketil Hvoslef's chamber music. The idea to document 38 of Hvoslef's chamber music works on CD was initiated by violinist Ricardo Odriozola and pianist Einar Røttingen, both with backgrounds spanning many years of cooperation with the composer. The recordings draw from the vast pool of performers in Bergen, where the composer lives and works. The musicians are primarily from the Grieg Academy (University of Bergen) and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Download links: [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]

"Sowas von egal" is a collaboration between the Hamburg record label Bureau B and the Hamburg party series Damaged Goods where they present rare, obscure synth & wave discs from the early 1980s which absolutely deserve to heard. It was clear from the outset that "Sowas von egal 2" would need to scale similar heights of excellence as its predecessor, featuring carefully selected, sought-after, danceable tunes. In contrast to the first volume, most of the acts here were only active in the early 1980s and have not released any records since then. The tape artists were particularly invested in the DIY ethic - as is often apparent in their sound aesthetics and the unbridled energy which has lost none of its intensity today. Their art was seldom - if ever - tempered by commercial considerations or sales strategies. A year in the making: "Sowas von egal 2" is a worthy successor to part 1! Vaisseaux, nous vous aurons aimes It is truly in his songs that Fauré reveals the flower of his genius?, wrote the composer?s former pupil Maurice Ravel. More than a hundred songs written over six decades made Fauré perhaps the greatest master of the genre French 'melodie'. The present collection takes us on a journey from Fauré's first song cycle, 'Poème d'un jour' (1878), to his last, 'L'Horizon chimérique' (1921), via the exultant 'La Bonne Chanson' (1892-94) and the intensely concentrated 'Mirages' of 1919. The songs have texts by French poets of Fauré's time; here we find poems of Charles Grandmougin, Baronne de Brimont, Paul Verlaine and Jean de La Ville de Mirmont. 'Mirages' concludes Bettina Smith's project for LAWO Classics of recording all of Gabriel Fauré's cycles for voice and piano. It was preceded in this series by 'Fêtes Galantes' (LWC1116) and 'Serres Chaudes' (LWC1008), both together with pianist Einar Røttingen. Together they have also released 'Voices of Women', with songs of Fartein Valen, Jostein Stalheim and Ketil Hvoslef, composers from Norway's west coast. Mezzo-soprano Bettina Smith is from Bergen. After graduating from Bergen Conservatory of Music, she studied with Wout Oosterkamp and Elly Ameling at the Royal Conservatory of Music in the Hague. This was followed by two years at the Zürich International Opera Studio. With a wide repertory ranging from medieval to contemporary music, Bettina Smith appears regularly as oratorio and cantata soloist, or together with pianists Jan Willem Nelleke and Einar Røttingen. Dutch pianist Jan Willem Nelleke's exceptional qualities as a duo partner have been widely recognised. His playing has been described as 'sparkling raindrops, rich chords and beautiful interludes' and as an 'ever alert co-operation with the soloist'. Download links: [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]

For any lover of classical music, the name itself is evocative of orchestral colour, broad, sweeping symphonic brushstrokes and the culmination of the romantic symphony. However, Mahler wrote with equal mastery in another genre: His oeuvre is remarkable in that he virtually wrote in two genres alone, namely symphony and song. What is more, there were few composers for whom the two genres were so closely connected: Mahler would often reuse material from songs in symphonies, and some claim that these self-quotations are keys to secret programmes in the symphonies. Most important of all is the fact that all of his mature songs were written both with orchestral accompaniment and as songs for piano and voice. In one of his final masterpieces, Das Lied von der Erde (the Song of the Earth) he combined the two into a symphonic song cycle. Where does this leave the piano version? Are these 'mere' piano reductions? One might ascribe commercial reasons for their creation: in Mahler's own time, a reduced arrangement was the only way the works could be heard outside of the concert hall, and a piano reduction would be the easiest to sell. This, however, would give far too little credit to the pieces. In fact, the attention to detail given in them shows that they were written to be performed as equals in either form. After all, since it would be in this form that most people would have the opportunity to hear them, it was important that these versions were as strong as they could possibly be. Illt ula det unge-vral 40. Skumring i tusseskog, Op. 8 Dei gjylte solstrimar There is a fascinatingly large treasure trove of songs available in the National Library - for the most part fully accessible, but hardly used. The songs are written by male and female composers from Romanticism onwards. Some have composed only a song or two, others in the hundreds. The song as art form is little used today. If performed, it is most often Grieg, the Norwegian composer who towers above his colleagues. But now, having sung Grieg for 25 years and recorded an album of Grieg's songs as well, I have taken an interest in all the other untapped material in the National Library. I have begun with Olav Kielland and Arne Dørumsgaard - two composers of the last century who both found inspiration in traditional folk music. Olav Kielland is not my grandfather, as some have wondered. We are related, but only distantly. My ambition was to record all his songs, and to the extent that we have recorded all the material available to us, we have realised our goal. For me, his tonal language is fantastic, from the simplest hymns and songs to his marvellous "The Last Spring". As for Olav Dørumsgaard, this album presents only a small portion of his total output. He has many songs that have not been published. We hope to devote an entire recording to Dørumsgaard's songs at a little later date. Download links: [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]

Elegiske fragmenter, Op. 42 Norwegian composer Morten Gaathaug has largely worked in a landscape influenced by the classical music tradition. He has not regarded his task as that of inventing his own musical language, but prefers rather to find inspiration in experiments with form and in using the old language in new ways. Important sources of inspiration are traditional folk music (from Norway and abroad), as well as impressions from nature, birdsong in particular. The latter can be found in works such as "Fugler i min natt" ("Birds in My Night"), "24 fugleportretter" ("24 Bird Portraits") for piano, and "Ornis musicalis". Gaathaug has devoted special attention to particular turn-of-the-century artistic currents around 1900 associated with composers Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) and Borghild Holmsen (1865-1938), as well as with poets such as Ragnhild Jølsen (1875-1908), Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) and Sigbjørn Obstfelder (1866-1900). This was a period of upheaval, in which modernism pushed forward with many new forms of artistic expression. Yet at the same time, it was important to maintain a connection to the past, renewing the traditional tonal foundation. On this recording Norwegian mezzo-soprano Marianne E. Andersen gives a performance of Gaathaugs works with lyrics by Jølsen, Rilke and Obstfelder. Download links: [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]

His fifth recording and debut jazz outing, Genesis features the Cuban virtuoso alongside Randy Brecker, Chris Potter, Ed Calle, Alain Perez, Julio Padron, Joel Hernandez, Milton Sesenton and Mercy Brass. Genesis will be available on all platforms on August 14th. Genesis is a highly personal recording for Kemuel Roig, who came to the United States at 12 years old in 2002 from Camaguey, Cuba. Many years in the making, the project is Roig's personal reflection of this relocation. "Genesis demonstrates the journey of my life thus far and is a testimony to a life spent learning about the music that I love and respect deeply: jazz." The album title is meant to be taken literally, as the album showcases Roig's Cuban roots and traditions. While Genesis is Roig's first official jazz recording, he is far from a newcomer on the scene. Over the course of his 18 years in Miami, Roig has established himself as a first-call pianist and arranger whose resume boasts recording sessions and live dates with Al Di Meola, Isaac Delgado, Brian Lynch, Giovanni Hidalgo, and Aymee Nuviola, among others. After releasing four previous works that were well received in New Age and Christian music circles, Genesis is his most fully realized project to date. Upon listening to Genesis, listeners are treated to nearly a biography of Roig, who penned seven of the ten compositions. Randy Brecker makes a guest appearance on "Conversation", one of Roig's most well-loved songs and one that he frequently features in his live performances. "Kendrick (Blessed Child)" is a tender Bolero written almost immediately after the birth of Roig's son. "Midnight Impromptu" is a dazzling interlude to "Cafe con Leche", an ode to his native land. Beginning as a Cha-Cha-Cha, this catchy earworm develops into a Son with a piano tumbao. Many of Roig's compositions are inspired by christianity. The title track, "Genesis 41 (Recurring Dream)", was inspired by Joseph, the "dreamer whose dreams always has special messages from God", while the cinematic "All For You" is Roig's personal dedication to God featuring orchestrator Milton Sesenton. "The Prayer" features vocalist Joel Hernandez and is Roig's closing dedication to God. Roig carefully selected the three non original songs; each of which represent a pivotal part of his musical development. "All God's Chillun Got Rhythm", features Latin GRAMMY winning tenor saxophonist Ed Calle and the powerful sounds of Mercy Brass. Roig fondly remembers the first time he heard Bud Powell perform this Walter Jurmann tune: "I was fascinated by how Mr. Powell performed this musical jewel, and I was fixated by his phrasing and the shape of his chords in the left hand. I ran to the piano to transcribe it immediately." Roig pays tribute to his musical hero with this selection, reimagining the tune as an Afro-Cuban exploration. "Pare Cochero" is a direct reference to his Cuban roots as it is a classic composition that is universally known by Cubans everywhere. Featuring iconic Cuban trumpeter Julio Padro, singer Alain Perez and again, Mercy Brass, "Pare Cochero" demonstrates the danzon and evolves through son cubano, a style that comes from a blend of Spanish and African origin to the modern edge of Timba. Roig's treatment of "Inner Urge" features Chris Potter and is performed on Genesis in an Afro-Cuban 6/8 feel. On Genesis, Kemuel Roig not only pays tribute to God, but to the many musical heroes that have helped him along the way. "I honor the musicians I have been blessed to meet in person and am grateful for those I have spent innumerable hours listening to and analyzing over the years. This project is for you."
